How has Elite MMA impacted your life?
Working from home has its advantages, but it can also be incredibly isolating. Initially, I signed up for classes as a way to get out of the house, but found it to be much more. Elite MMA is more than a gym, it’s a community of like-minded athletes who have become family. I am thankful for the friendships I’ve made, skills I’ve acquired, and look forward to training each week.
“Take the time to teach others, because someone took the time to teach you” is posted on the wall at the Kingwood location and it defines Elite MMA perfectly. The entire coaching staff is knowledgeable, patient, and more than willing to answer questions or walk through a technique. Also, I truly appreciate fellow students/teammates who have used their open mat time to spar with my seven-year-old daughter who loves kickboxing.
What benefits have you seen from training?
The benefits of daily exercise are paramount. I needed a routine that didn’t feel like a routine. The kickboxing classes offer a high energy full body workout with self defense training that’s different every time. Additionally, jiu jitsu offers an appealing mental game that keeps me coming back each week. Aside from losing weight, my endurance has improved dramatically and my skills are progressing.
What would you tell someone that’s thinking about doing mixed martial arts?
Try a class. At 34, I never thought I’d be training in jiu jitsu, but it’s been the best workout both mentally and physically. The atmosphere at Elite is incredibly welcoming and it has been a positive experience.
