Title:
Elite MMA Program – Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Description:
Jiu Jitsu is more of a — they call it the gentle art because there are no punches or anything being thrown and it’s all about grappling. It’s about joint-manipulation and technique. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been proven time and time again since the early 90s to be the most effective form of self-defense. Once you hit the ground, most people are like a fish out of water. And Jiu Jitsu, 55 minutes out of an hour-long Jiu Jitsu class, you’re going to be on the ground learning how to get out of a tough spot. You know, one of the worst positions you can be in: someone’s on top of you, throwing punches or kicking you on the ground, that sort of thing. When you come in, the first couple of months of training, you’re learning how to get out of those situations so you’re able to be confident if you do ever end up in a bad spot. I’ve actually lost about 12 pounds since I started my Jiu Jitsu journey. I’ve pushed myself mentally the furthest I’ve ever pushed myself before, which is pretty fantastic. The instructor is always going to have your best interests, always going to be helping, regardless if you see him once-a-month or once-a-year. That’s the kind of relationships that we’re constantly trying to build in the community rather than it’s just like come in, get on the mat, get your card checked, do class, and then leave. I think a lot of people look at martial arts and they think like “oh I could never do that.” I’m just the typical soccer mom, football mom, PTA. We’ve all been there. You know, we all know what it’s like to walk in the door and to watch these people who look like ninjas, and I think I just mentally had to get past that and just try it.
