Training Recovery: Tips on Keeping the Body and Mind Ready

Hey Elite MMA team, I am here to give you a few quick tips on how to help the recovery process after getting a hard workout. We all know working out is important to living a healthy active lifestyle and so is proper recovery. When talking about recovery, there are a few things you can do to help speed up the process.

  1. PROPER HYDRATION AND NUTRITION
Staying hydrated is a key when recovering. Water takes care of many important functions in your body, including lubricating joints, transporting nutrients, and oxygen throughout your body, and helping you maintain constant body temperature.

Eating properly is probably the most important thing you can do when recovering and is also important for peak  performance in workouts such as Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing. Focus on eating foods that are high in protein and vitamins to keep your body happy and healthy.

  2. FOAM ROLLING
Another great way to help your body recover is foam rolling. Have any tight spots, knots or even just sore muscles? Foam rolling is great for all of those as foam rolling helps by releasing some of the lactic acid in the muscles after a workout and promotes blood flow through the body. When rolling out, remember to breathe and target the areas you feel are most needed.

  3. REST
For my last tip, resting properly is vital to your recovery. Without the proper amount of sleep you are depriving the body of the time it needs to help rebuild the muscles you have torn down.  When resting up you should be getting about 7-8 hours of good quality sleep. It is good for recovery and helpful in boosting up the energy levels.
